fog lights/auto lights

I have a 97 F. 150 XLT and I recently bought it. I want to put fog lights on it. i checked and the wiring harness is ithere I'm not sure if I need a new light switch tough if you pull on it it clicks out but it doesn't say to pull for fog lights. are the wires connected to it? the only thing I can think of, is to test it by putting a fuse is in the fuse box and stick voltage meter in the fog light plugs. also I have an auto light switch and I can't get it to work i checked the fuse and its good. My opinion is i think the guy that I bought it from changed the light switich. so I don't know can anyone help me on those two things.

The XLT's for '00 - '03 had a good part of the wiring installed. '99 an earlier usually did not have the wiring from the switch to the fuse panel. That is what I have run into so far.

A few things to check :

1. Is there a fog light Icon on the switch. I am not sure what you mean by "it doesn't say to pull for fog lights" Is that there is no Fog Lamp Icon ?

2. If you install the Fog lamp relay fuse ( Position 27, 5A ), and pull out, if there is a fog lamp icon, does it illuminate with the headlamps on, in the low beam position ?

3. If you apply power to the fog lamp relay socket, pin # 5, do the fog lamp connectors have power on the Tan w/ Orange Stripe wire ?( other wire should be black for the ground connection ).

These are the quick things that I can think of to check if the harness is installed in the truck.
