Fog Lites 2005 F150

Hi, I have a 2005 F 150 that does not have the factory fog lites, I want to change the bumper and install one with fog lite cut outs. Does any one know if the the existing wiring harness has the wires for the fogs and were it is ??
Thanks Dave

It should be plug n play. Just get a new bumper with fogs and plug it in

For what it's worth, I did an identical bumper & fog install but my XLT didn't have the wiring.

I am guessing you have a XL or XLT, and the answer is no, none of the wiring is in them. 2 different email chains I have had, and no luck. One was a '05, cannot recall if the other was an '05 or '06.

The factory fog lamps can still be installed, and a seperate loom made to use the facotyr fog lamps switch, but it will take running a few wires.

Interested ?

Yes it is a XLT, I kept looking in the existing harness for the wires and thought I was missing it?? Did you run your fogs to the factory switch.??

brandoon,

I have a Lariat this time around, so they were included in the package.

The change out of the switch on the '04+ I have to take a look around for a post, to see if there are good direction like the 97-03's that FedEx pilot has on his site.

This is the '04+ EVTM page for the factory fog lamps :

After figuring out how to get the switch out, the next step is checking if the wiring is in the cab of the truck. This has been the case for sure on the '00-'03's, and I cannot find the emails on the '04+ to see if the confirmed this was installed. The big gap I remember on the '04+ was the fog lamp conector behind the bumper. This is what stopped the install cold on the other 2.

Maybe I should have suggested you check here, as you never can tell. I have seen 2 F-150s with the same trim level have different wiring in them, depending on what time of year and build location. If you are not up to your rear in ice / snow stick your head behind the bumper and look for the 9145 / 9005 connector. It is an oval 2 pin connecter.
This is the factory fog wire route when installed :

That puke brown connector is the front parking bulb connector The wire heading towards the camera lense is the fog lamp harness.
When others pull the head lamp, they could not find this harness. Taking a look could be a good idea, and if you do have it, note the build date, and build location ( if you recall this info ).

If you don't have the fog lamp connectors, and after getting the switch out, next is to check that your truck has the wiring in the main headlamp switch.
The pin assignements change depending on build date, so there are 2 pin numbers to check on the connector:
The White w/ black stripe wire is the output to the fog lamp relay, on either pin 5 or 9.
The light green w/ black stripe is in the power in, on either pin 6 or 7.
IF you don't have these, a trip to get the main headlamp siwtch connector is in order. You can remove the pins from them and reinstall them in your connector.
Else, you can purchase a small harness with the correct pin ends and installed them in the connector:
Steve shows how to here :

This is the harness catalog that steve posts :
http://www.motorcraft.com/products.do?item=23

Splicing power to the light green w/ black stripe ( if not already done on yours ), to the light green w/ black stripe wire ( instrument cluster ) to get power to the switch.
Splice the White w/ black stripe wire to the add on fog lamp kit's relay for activating the fog lamps.

This is rather long, as I am covering a few senerios, to check, and how to get the factory fog lamp switch to work ( and what to check to see how much work your truck will require ).

Ask any questions, on what is not clear, and let us know if you want to move forwad on it.

Good luck,

Steve
