Exclamation Dashlight Trouble - 1998 F150

I'm having problems with the right side of my dashlights. From the "100 mph" reading on my spedometer all the way to my heat gague, including the oil pressure gague, are not lit up at all. The rest of the dash is fine and well lit and also dims when i adjust the dimmer. I checked all of the fuses in my fuse box and all are fine. Could the bulbs need replacing in my dash? I haven't heard of dash bulbs needing to be replaced.

Howdy and welcome.

The '97s bulbs are burt out behind the tach and the four idiot gauges too. All that is left so far is the speedo, and when that goes is when I'll bother with the PITA job of changin em.

You can get the bulbs from Wally World, and if you replace half of them, you might as well replace them all too, to keep you from taking the dash apart.

They really arn't that hard to replace. Just about 10 screw. Use a nut driver. I use a small ratchety on the 3 above the spedo then 2 on the bottom sides. The small section around the steering column pulls off.2 bolts under it. It has 4 friction or 'push' connectors.4 bolts on speedo. Unhook the electrical and vola, you can do the bulbs!

Do a search, I described the procedure for this awhile ago. The trick is to get the headlight switch out, there is a bolt behind it that must come out. The entire gauge cluser must come out and the gear indicator will slide out from the cluster. The bulbs twist out, replace all of the illumination bulbs so you won't need to do this again

good luck

I don't think you need to remove the headlight switch to do the instrument cluster. Correct me if I'm wrong.

He has a 98, the cover around the top of the instument cluster is held by three screws and one behind the headlight switch. I have done this on my 98.
