Remote starter and factory theft alarm problems
Remote starter and factory theft alarm problems
Hey all, I am installing a Bulldog remote starter for the winter and all went well until I cannot find the darkgreen and purple wire in the kick panel that is required to disable the factory alarm. The dash lights up and the truck attempts to start but the theft light in the dash blinks and the truck never starts. I do not have a fancy chip key, or keyless entry pad. I did not get a remote with the truck but found a remote key code in my manual for my truck. I have verified every wire I can find in the three connectors that mount in the kick panel. The only purple wire is tiny and purple with a small yellow stripe. Are the wiring diagrams from bulldog wrong for 2001 - they a posted thesame color codes as a 97-99..? are they? Has anyone installed a remote starter without some adapter for the factory alarm disable or is the "theft" light on the dash something else.... Thank you in advance- the dash is still in pieces, I spent way too much time to give up at this point- the last wire.......
If you have the THEFT light flashing on the dash then you have a PATS coded key. You should have a larger box at the top of your key. The flashing and then not starting is because you need a special module. I recommend a PKF1 or XKO4 bypass module for your truck. It requires on key to program and you DO NOT have to hide a key under the dash.
As for the alarm disarm wire. Chances are that you do not have factory security. To be sure simply have your door open. Hit the LOCK switch on the door panel and then close the door with you inside. Count to 20 and then pull the handle from the inside to open the door and see if your truck starts honking at you. If it does then you will need to connect the factory disarm wire.
Also look at your firewall and see if you have a cream colored box on the firewall near the emercency brake. If there are three harnesses that go into the box then you have factory alarm and you can find the disarm wire in the harness that is closest to the kick panel. You will also find your pink with yellow lock, pink with green unlock and just above where the harness leads to the large harness that runs above the brake you will find your black with blue stripe door trigger wire.

Thanks for the information, my key seems too small to be a pats key - its no thicker than my older ford key and has no visable chip but i'll find out. I'll run the checks and look at the fire wall. I will not let this beat me......let you all know what happens
Checked all of th eabove recommendations and low and behold they are correct. I do not have a factory alarm and the truck is a PATS key. With the two bypass modules mentioned what are the differences? th eprices are from $29 to $89. Does anyone have a recommended vendor to purchase one from?
All F-150s from 99-up are PATS-equipped (IIRC... may be 2000-up, so don;t quote me on that). Your 2001 definately is PATS-equipped.
Ditto on the PATS bypass. I'm not a fan of the key-user bypass boxes either.
For the factory perimeter alarm, it's been a while, but IIRC, hit the lock button with the door open, and close the door. The THEFT light on the dash should light steady for up to 2 minutes. Once the THEFT light begins to blink, the system is armed and pulling the inside handle should cause the alarm to honk and flash.

The $29 for the PKF1 is a great price concidering they are $22 at cost.
KCAutosound..
I'm hooking a rmst in an 01 supercrew with RKE. I'm having trouble finding the factory disarm, door trigger, lock and unlock wires. Will they be at the gem or in the kickpanel? Do you have a reliable diagram? What does the door trigger do? Thanks a mill.
