Unhappy Power Window Goes Awry

Hey everyone, new to this forum.
I have a power window issue on my 1997 F150 Supercab, the drivers window will not work most of the time and then all of a sudden it will go down on its own and you have to keep pushing up to close it. The next few days it works fine and then the ol gremlins act up again. The theft light comes on sometimes when I try to lower the window and then my power locks do not work.
Help me please...

Time to look at the switch wiring. Maybe a lead is off and just touching or crossing.

Any correlation to rainfall?

Power Window Goes Awry

I have already checked the switch and wiring doesn't seem to be any problems there, moisture also is not a problem it will do this rain or shine, my next step is to check and see if the power unit has a short to the ground???
The odd thing is when the key is partially out of position my door locks work again and the theft light goes out, I wonder if this has anything to do with this???

Thanx
Mark

Mark,

I think Steve was trying to ask about the leaking windshield / GEM issue, without creating panic. At least that is what I think.

This sounds similar to the symptoms of a wet GEM, but that does nto mean it is that.

Take a look up behind the dash where the passenger compartment fuse panel is at, and see if the carpeting is wet. The only true test of this is to remove the fusel panel and seperate the GEM from the back, to check for corrosion.

Start out with checking the carpet up behind the fuse panel.

Power Window Goes Awry

Hey everyone,
I think I found my power window trouble, a faulty door switch. Even though it is new, I jump the terminal and window goes down perfectly and then goes up perfectly, will take defective part back to dealer.
I don't know if any one else has the trouble with the theft light in coalition with the power door locks but I did and I found the fault was definetly in my ignition lock cylinder. Replaced the lock cylinder and mechs, and now the locks and horn are working fine.
Also when you have the SRS out of the way a little electronics spray cleaner works excellent. (available at your local Radio Shack).

Thanx
Mark

P.S. No dampness behind the fuse block at all, lucky I guess.

I am taking a guess, that is why he asked the way he did, as not to put the wrong idea in your mind, as far as direction of problem diagnoses.

Glad to hear it was not the GEM.
