Various Weird Electrical Problems

Looking for recommendations/fixes or others with same problems. 1999 F150

With no key in ignition radio and fan came on and drained the battery. Weeks later same problem but park lights were now flashing periodiodically. A few weeks more and now the starter went on for several minutes - again no key in the ignition, the truck had sat in the driveway for several hours.

I noticed under the hood that rain was soaking the wiring harness on the drivers side, just before it goes into the electrical box- anyone else seeing the same problems - no any fixes?

I would appreciate anyone's input

Thanks

I think you answered your question. Sounds like a wet fuse box. Pull that connector and put liberal amounts of dielectric grease on each piece. Then find out where the water is getting into the engine compartment at. Could be a cracked hood to cowl seal, no or missing splash guards....

Sounds like a windshield leak and a wet GEM. All the symptoms are there.

If you do a search on the term GEM* in this forum, you will find quite a few posts on the topic.

In general the sloution is fix the leak ( usually lower left hand corner of the windhield ) and replace the GEM and the Central junction box.

The GEM is on the back of the central junction box ( pass compartment fuse panel ) and the corrosion is usualy between the 2, is where the problem is caused at.

Found the Problem

Thanks everyone, probem was water in fuse box/gem. No idea how it got there yet.

Based on the number of electrical problems (and fires) reported on the internet, would it be possible to install a battery cut off switch without affecting the truck - would at least give me some piece of mind when I park it.

Anyone know where I can get fender flame decals - seems appropiate :-)

Thanks Guys

You can buy these top-of-the-line used Hella battery switches on eBay or from me because Land Rover ships them on some of their vehicles as transport cutoff switches. Wal-Mart sells a chinese knock-off for ~$10 with no cables.

Here are some wiring options:

Mounting location is up to you, but somewhere under the dash in the passenger footwell would be convenient since it's close to the battery wires AND the starter.
