Possible battery problem

Hi guys.
Yesterday morning, starting the truck to go to work, all my gages did the sweep to the right for about a second, then returned to normal. When I got off work, the same thing happened. Today, everything acted normal, no gage sweep. I know this says that the battery might be getting weak, or already is, so I decided that this weekend I would replace the battery before it fails in an inopportune time and place. This appears to be the original battery, and I was thinking of going to my local Pep Boys to pick up a red top Ultima.
Do you think I should do this, or have I answered my own question?
I just want to hear what you guys think and would do in this situation.
Thanks for your input.

you will notice a difference with the red top. optima makes a great battery. id replace with that just because of the reliability.

Get the battery tested. It is free. If that is the problem then change it. If it is not then you didn't blow $$$$ for a battery. Optima makes a good battery but if you don't need the gel type you can save money by purchasing a conventional one. Get one that meets the CCA for your vehicle. I would choose one with the minimum required CCA but the highest reserve capacity. A higher reserve will allow it to crank for a longer period. That is what will get you going on cold mornings when oil turns to syrup.
