Fuse 24 In The Power Distibution Box That Controls My Powertrain Control Module Keeps Blowing Out. My Truck's Engine Just Stopped Running The Other Day. I Found The Blown Fuse And Replaced It. It Cranked And I Leet It Sit And Run For About 5 Minutes With Now Problem. Then After I Drove It About 2 Hundred Yards Down The Road It Shut Off Again, Same Fuse Of Course. I Realized I Probably Shouldn't Have Tried Another Fuse But For Humor I Did Anyway. This Time It Didn't Even Crank And It Had Blown Out. Is This The Control Module Or Most Likely Some Freak Wire Shorting Out? Any Help Would Be Appreciated.

I could guess it is a 1998 by the fuse lcoation, but I am not 100% sure of that.

 

It Is A 1997. Normal Cab. No Power Locks, Windows, Or Cd Player. Pretty Much Bone Stock. Extended Bed.

 

I just found the thread where a '99 was having similar problems.

This is a bit different. I did not get the reply until after heading out of town, so I am sans EVTM until THUR.

Take a read through the thread. Fish-on-99 found this to be a problem with teh trans connection.

Don't know if the weather is holding in your location, to take a fishing expidition under the truck for the trans and HO2S circuits.

That fuse feeds power to just about every sensor & actuator on the engine, so the possibilities are WIIIIIIIIDE. I'd start at the back of the passenger wheelwell where the wiring harness runs dangerously close to where the tire rubs the frame.

Exact same fault.

Pay particular attention to the O2 harnesses where they may contact either hot exhaust components, half shafts (if 4X4), and wherever harnesses make a sharp turn around corners.

 

I'll Check Those Possibilities Out And Get Back To You Guys. Thanks Again For The Starting Point.

 

The wire running from the PCM to the fuse was hitting the manifold. The wire had melted down and was shorting out. Thanks for the help guys! Much appreciated

Did you happen to take (or are able to do so) a photo of the fault site? Such a pic can help future owners looking for the same fault.
