As bright as you can afford to buy. There's no such thing as too bright.

As far as I'm concerned, the best bang for the buck is a set of sealed-beam 150-watt (385,000 candlepower) KC Daylighters. From www.desertrat.com, $79 for chrome or black, $99 for stainless. I've got 'em on my F150 and my Explorer. They're about as bright as you can get without going to either HIDs or some ungodly expensive lights like LiteForce.

Behind your factory grill? that sounds like an interesting idea, what kind of grill do you have? What year is your truck? Do you have any pics

Yes, behind the grill works just fine. I have a set of Hella 550s with 130 watt bulbs. Just make sure you wire that kind of fire power correctly. There's a ton of current draw so correct wire sizing and a relay are required. More pictures in my gallery.

Another Fog Light option.

Another fog/spot light option. Costs less than $100 total and easy to do if you are handy at all. I will have pictures when I have completed this install (my second). These lights will be behind the grill also.
