Cigarette lighter issues

Recently my cigarette light started putting out low volage/amperage. Not sure which, never got a chance to check it. The cigarette lighter wasn't getting nearly as hot as it should and accessories wern't working when plugged into the lighter. There was enough power to dimly light the light in the plug of the accesory but not the accessory itself. Now nothing works in the cigarette lighter at all. There is nothing jammed in there and the powerpoint works just as hit should and all fuses are fine.

I hope it's just a bad connection someplace. What is the easies way to remove the lighter jack itself to check the connections on the lighter

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like you use the lighter plug for lighting a smoke, right ?

There might not look like anything jammed in there, but have you taken rubbing alcohol and Q-Tips and cleaned it out ?

If you have ash built up on the contacts ( usually the power point in the tip ) this would act as a resistor.

I would check this first, prior to checking the connectors.

The other quick test is to reach behind and unplug it ( T pin female spade terminals ) and meter the 2 pins on the connector.

The power point is a seperate fuse, and circuit. Comparing the 2 is not a good test.

Like i said all fuses are fine. I just took the test light out and checked the cig lighter and the fust for the cig lighter. power at the fuse none at the cig lighter itself. There is nothing in the cig lighter. The problem has to be between the fuse and the lighter itself. i need to know the easies way to remove the lighter so i can start checing connections

Ok, if you don't want to answer the questions....

Try reaching behind the cigar lighter, and unplug the connector back there.

That is why I posted it above. The order of disasembly is un plug the connector, and unscrew the barrel around the cig lighter. Once this is done, the part left it pulled through the face of the bezel.
