Fog light ByPass

I have a 98 f150 with the fog lights that turn off when you switch to high beams. I was wondering if any one has figured out and easy way to run the fog lights any time that the lights are on. This really bothers me and I dont want to go tearn up the wiring harness if there is an adapter or an easyier way if you know what im getting at.

I ran a jumper from the parking light 12v to the foglights on my truck that way any time the parking lights are on so are the fogs. Took me about 15 min and cost $3 for the connectors and wire.

Slight typo foglight mod* is the search term. fog light mod produces the max 500 thread count for the search results, and only use the search term of 4 or more letters ( drops fog and mod from the search terms ).

you would get this :
https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...ighlight=fedex

I happend to know it was FedEx pilot that listed the mod, so I just searched the electrical forums for the term fedex

Sorry Joe, not picking on you today, I promise ( He got me once today already, can't let the score be 1:1 for the day )

You need to jumpre the wire for the fog light relay to the parking light circuit. However, by doing so, you will not be able to turn the fogs off unless you turn the parking lights off too. You can modify the switch and the wiring so that you can turn the fogs on with the parking lights and still have the option to turn the fogs off. It just depends on what you want them to do.

To make the fogs come on with the parking lights at all times, you clip the wire that feeds the fog light relay, then splice it into the parking light output from the switch. Colors vary slightly based on teh year, and I don't have that schematic at my fingertips at the moment.

Ok, missed the part where you said you had all this done.

If you want the fogs to be on any time the parking lamps are on ( disable use of the fog lamp switch itself ) , change your jumper that you installed with the fog lamp mod.

Rather then supply power to the fog lamp switch ( White w/ black stripe ) via the parking lamp circuit ( brown ), change to :

Jumper the Brown wire to the yellow wire ( power from the fog lamp switch to the +12V side of the fog lamp relay coil ).

After this, remove the 5A fuse #27 in the central junction box ( feeding power to the fog lamps switch ).

This is what LastSplash was getting at, but did not provide the color codes to complete it.

The 2001 EVTM 86-2, so you can see what is going on with the change noted above :

Let us know if it does what you want it to. I just noticed, you hijacked the thread from someone else, this is where my confusion was at.

yea, sorry about that. it got the job done though.

my fogs turn on with the parking lamps so when i turn the headlights on they stay on. now the fogs flash with the headlamps when i lock the truck. nothing special really. just thought it was pretty cool because its never done that before.

so, everything worked how i wanted it to and now i can use my fog lights without a set of pliers.

yea thats pretty much it. previous owner must have broken the clip that holds the turning part of the switch on when they did the fog light mod. then they hot glued it on. i didnt know the switch was broken for the longest time then it just came off one day. i tried gluing the switch back on with no success. so any time i wanted to turn my fogs on i had to use pliers.

I just did this mod. My (03) headlight switch had some differences. First of all the switch just pulls right out ( no need to reverse the *** as on my 97). The switch is just held in by 4 small metal clips. The switch itself was also different where the connectors plug in. I was able to locate the proper colored wires and do the jumper wire trick. Also, I have daytime running lights so I can't run the fog lights without the headlights so I didn't bother modifying the switch itself. The fogs now stay on with the highbeams. On a side note; does anyone know if I can turn off my daytime running lights. On my 97 I could just apply the parking brake and they would turn off. No luck on my 03.
