What are you trying to do? Hook up an existing or install from scratch?
If you have an existing then it's a relay under the hood if you need the 12 VDC to the Aux terminal for trailer battery charging, and plugging in the brake controller if you need trailer brakes. That's all I did with mine.

This is direct from the factory tow instructions that came with the truck :
If you don't have these, drop me an email via my profile, and I can send the set from my '06 that I put into PDF format. I have not been able to find this part of the owners manual on any of the 3 sites yet, so this is the scanned version of the paper copy that comes with the truck, so it is about as good looking at the picture above, but usable.
Hope this is the part you are refering to when you say "starts under the dash". If you are asking about the ends of the actual wires, that would be part in this connector ( brake controller ) and part in the Central Junction box ( fuse box behind the pass side kick panel ).
