Light out
Light out
Hey guys,
I have a 1998 Ford F-150. I noticed yesterday that one my dash lights are out. The one that lights up my fuel and battery guage.
How do I change this one, or is it a big huge hassle?
Thanks

Hi Matts762,
I just did this today and it is really easy once you figure out how to get the headlights switch off.
The pictures below tell the story:

1- Turn the headlight switch to the right and then pull it out like you are turning on your driving lights.

2-Insert a small screwdriver into the slot and push in the clip and pull the **** off.

3-Take the **** and turn it upside down 180 degrees and put it back on.

Turn it clockwise and pull the whole unit out of the dash.

4-Take out all the screws. Including the one back in there by the electrical harness.

5- Put the shifter into 1st, lower the steering wheel and pull out the dash panel.

6-Disconnect the gear selector display.

7-disconnect the three electrical plugs.

Twist the bulb counter-clockwise to get them out.
I believe you can buy the bulbs at any chain auto store although I went to the dealer and paid 12 bucks for 6 bulbs.

yah its not too hard, pull the dash apart enough to get to the cluster, then there should be some bulbs that are just twisted into place, they pull power off the circut board itsefl, so just unplug the whole cluster, and replace what bulbs you need to replace. You may decide that after taking the time to tear it down, it might be worth replacing them all while you are in there.

I had this much apart when i was wiring in a permanent aux line in for my HU.
And those instructions above are good, but you dont need to remove the headlight swirch, just unplug it once you pull that panel loose.

Hi Patman03SprCrw,
Actually you do have to pull the light switch off on a 98. You can't get to the screw that will keep that one panel on without taking it out. You only need to pull off that 1 panel seen in the photos to get to the lights not the whole dash.
It took about a half hour.

ill take your word for it then, i just done remember doing that on mine, and yah i know to do the light replacement, you dont have to tear out the whole top half of dash like i have pictured, but thats the only picture i had that was relevent to the topic on hand.
