we used several different brands when we upgraded our Dodges we use on the farm, they were replaced with out new f150's.

the brand we used was lece neville, the same type used on fire trucks

we are currently looking at possibly haveing to change some our new fords to a bigger alternator

our desire is for higher amperage output at idle.

the trucks we may upgrade are used as escort trucks with our lowboy and farm equipment as they are moved. they have light bars, strobes, and extra work and scene lights, not to mention motor, headlights, streanlight chargers, air conditioner/heater and four way flashers, and hand help flood/spot lights

we have a lot of idling time when moving equipment

we know we will need to fabricate brackets as these are larger alternators. When we upgraded the dodges we had to make custom brackets.

Lece neville, delco, and one I forget make these oversize amperage alternators there also some that are double alternators with outputs to 250 amps with outputs of over 120 amps at idle.
these are the same ones as those used on firetrucks

why do you want a larger alternator.

what is the amerage draw that you are pulling at idle. what ever you do you need to exceede the useage at idle. your concern should be what you need at idle not the max.

worry about the draw at idle and the at idle alternator output

by the way, the 130 amps is the max output with the engine running down the road
we have not checked the low end output yet

oh we also have extra batteries and isolators with the extra lights are run off the extra batteries, keeps the starting battery hot

215-300 amp alternators very promising

looks like no major adaptions or alterations

The real problem is not only larger alternator capacity but a way to raise the engine idle speed to about 1800 to 2000 rpm..
On larger truck models with power eguipment to run, there is a provision for higher idle as a signal to the computer to do this but on an F150 there is none that I know of so it would have to be worked out using some method of raising the throttle.
A lever cable 'SAFELY" worked out to the grill area could make this work or even an electric solenoid from a mid 70s car throttle could be made to work by setting it on before the driver gets out..
There are many ways it could be done.
