Angry Stupid Blinker!!!

I have about had it. I have a '98 F150. The right front passenger blinker works intermittently. Sometimes, the green arrow does not appear at all on the dash, sometimes it appears and blinks fast. However, I can always hear it clicking and the rear blinker works. Everything works 100% on the driver side. I have changed out the bulb (duh), and also cleaned out the connections from the wiring harness to the bulb plug-in. I can't imagine this could be a blinker relay. Any suggestions? I hear this is a common problem. Thanks guys.

I had a simliar problem on my 1998 F150 and turns out some of my wring was shorting itselfs out. Cost me a little over $200 for the dealer to fix it. I had no way of tracking the problem down so I just spent the money. Not sure if that is good or bad news.

The actual blinker switch thing lever (if that makes sense) is bad. I forget what the name of it is, but they go bad in all Ford trucks.

Do you have tilt steeering? My 98 Explorer's blinkers would work with the wheel up but not down. There is a wiring harness on top of the steering column under all the plastic. The clip that held the harness together broke off and allowed the harness to pull apart just enough when the wheel was down that the blinkers quit.

I had the same problem with the "multi-function" turn signal lever on my 97 f150 it also effects the wiper/washer button at times, replacement is ez and part cost about $75 from the dealer

About 4 years ago, my 97 was doing the same thing. I found that if I pushed the signal down (not far enough to lock) a little it worked fine. Funny, after operating it like that for about 2 weeks, it started woking fine and has been since then

FF301's problem is exactly what my 1997 F150 is doing, right down to the washer fluid button problem. Mine is more noticable when it's colder out and only effects the right turn signal. You say replacing this part is easy? I just ordered an e-brake release cable from the Ford stealership this AM!

Anyone have pictures on what this looks like, where it is located and how "easy" it is to swap out? If all of the aforementioned is true with not only the blinkers, but the windshield washer/wipers you've helped tremendously. I look forward to hearing and seeing how to do this soon. Thank you.

Once you take the switch out you can actually take it apart and clean the contacts. They'll look all green with copper oxide. Just clean and lubricate contacts. My 97 has lasted another 5 years without any problems.

Thanks Scruge! Are you talking about the switch in the blinker arm or under the dash? Thanks for the clarification in advance.
