I've got my 05 Supercrew in the shop now having the brake shift interlock sensor replaced for the 2nd time since I bought it in June of this year.....Got home last night----put it in Park-----felt tight shifting up through Reverse--so I attempted to shift back into R from P & could not.......Had to have it towed to the dealership this morning (tried everthing in the manual from fuses to the bypass button on the bottom of the shifter----with no luck). Service Mgr said he has to replace the brake shift interlock sensor AGAIN......The 1st time b/c the cruise was not working------(still did not when I got the truck back----found out that was b/c of the LED tail lights--added resistors & fixed that). Can I be having this sensor problem again b/c of the LED's????????

Can someone please help-----as you can tell by my user ID ----- I Love my truck & have been having horrible thoughts about replacing it w/a Bow Tie......NOT COOL!!!!!

I would say if you were not having trouble with the shift interlock before installing LED's, and now you are with LED's.........then yes, could be the LED's causing the trouble. I would try putting back the regular tail lights and see if the problem still occurs. I have been reading (elsewhere) that sometimes LED's can cause electrical problems.

I get it back from the shop today-----I'm going to take your advise----tried changing back to factory tail lamps Monday nite (did not fix) but the sensor was probably already out-------

Did you ever solve the shift interlock problem? Just wondering if switching back to the OEM taillights helped or not.

The LEDs should have zero effect on it. The dealership is full of it. The signal comes from teh Brake On-Off switch, not the taillights. The BOO switch sends a signal to a bunch of different components, the least of which is the brake lights. I'm not buyin' it. If it's an electrical problem, you can bypass the interlock by first unlocking the column without turning the ignition on, then shift to neutral, then starting the vehicle. They would then need to track down the electrical problem.

If it's a mechanical problem with the interlock, it's definately got nothing to do with the taillights.

That was my thought, if the interlock button on the bottom of the shifter did not get the handle out of P into N, so it could be started, it almost seems like a mechnaical problem. I don't know why the dealer keeps going back to the same thing. Then again I am shocked he found a dealer that would replace this under warrr, with the slightest hint of modification to the truck. Heck, there are some dealers in IL here that are just this side of seat covers void your warrenty . Some real gems around here.

The dealer replaced the entire shifter--------I had noticed that the button on the original shifter had gotten a bunch of play in it------the new one is tight from start to stop-------I never did try change back to the OEM lights & have had no problem as of yet-------

 

Depends on how well you know the dealer and/or the people at the dealership.......LOVE THEM SMALL TOWNS......
