Power Door Locks
Power Door Locks
I've been reading the forums and nothing really fits my situation (so I think) so I will ask it here.
One day at the same time, my power door locks just stop locking. Both doors will unlock but both will not lock. When I push the "L" lock switch on either door, no sound is made and nothing happens. Yet I can push the "U" to unlock and it does.
I read that it could be the door acuator?? but isn't that device in each door? If it is, why would they both go out at the same time. Just doesn't make sense.

Please help.

ok i took off the switch panel on the driver door. GOt to be honest. I have no idea what I'm looking for. Can I get some detail instructions from someone? I don't have a tester or anything to know if power is getting to the switch. This sux..please help someone.
Go to parts store. Buy cheap tester, only a couple bucks. Test for power or lack of power. Just ground one end of the tester and touch pointy end on wire clips under switch and test switches. If they all test ok then you need to get to the power lock module and do the test there. Ground one end, touch other end on wire and hit switch. See if it lights up, if not you have a bad wire. If it does light up you probably have a bad lock solenoid. Bill
Also, the wires may work on a grounding circuit. That means you need to have power on one end of your tester and then touch the bottom of the switches as you test them. Not sure how the wiring is set up on the F150. Try grounding the lead first, if no response, try power. Hope that makes sense. Bill

I have read the posts in this forum to help me with my problem. But, have not found a situation like mine (I think). Both door locks on my 97 F-150 started going up and down and then quit. The keyless pads do not work at all but, the locks do work when you push the buttons on the door panels. I asked at the FordHouse this weekend what the problem could be and he said you have probably lost your program. He told me the procedure by turning on and off the ignition five times, then hit one of the remote keypad buttons after the fifth time and this should reset your program. Well either I did not do it right or something else is wrong with it. I have even replaced the batteries on the keypads. Someone said that I need to disconnect my battery for thirty minutes and let the computer "reset"? Or I need to buy a new keyless program?
I need help please.

You can try this to reprogram your remotes:
A. Cycle ignition from OFF to RUN or ACC eight (8) times within 10 seconds, ending in RUN or ACC. All doors will lock then unlock to confirm programming mode. Press any button on 1st remote transmitter. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming. Press any button on 2nd transmitter (up to 4 transmitters total possible). Turn ignition to OFF. The door locks will lock then unlock to confirm programming.
Hope this helps.

Since the door locks work from the switches, you might try disconnecting the battery. It's the only other thing I can think of.
If this was an aftermarket install, you might recheck all the components for loose connections, etc. Is there any kind of wiring, batteries, etc. for the keypad??
(I'm not sure how the key pads work/connect since I dont have them).
The driver's door lock/unlock switch is the thing used most and is the most likely thing to cause this problem. Easyest test is to swap with a known good switch. Problem with that is a switch costs money.
Yes The left and right door switches are interconnected electrically. One contact can affect the other sw. 3 wires run directly from one sw to the other. On a 99'
It's possible to swap sw's and get a different symptom which would tell u one was bad. I believe if you remove 1 sw in a working system the other sw will not work.

Another visit to the Ford parts dept. and he thinks that the RAP module has gone bad. Of course it would have to be brought in and checked out for sure and the cost is around $200. So, could this be the problem and could this be changed out by a novice?
