I have a '97 F150. It has electronic locks, but not keyless entry. I was hoping that I could go to a bone yard and take a receiver module off of a junk truck and it would plug right in to my vehicle. Is this true?

I have a 99 F150 and no keyless and I want the factory one..

Trying to add a RAP is going to be challenging to say the least.

If you only want RKE, then get a Code Alarm 110 ( this is the manufacture that Ford /OEMs the bronze, Silver & gold systems from ).

Travis has the 110 for 80.00, and you can order it prewired for a fee, which comes with the directions for how to install it, with the wiring diagrams.

I just the same assumed I could go to a Junkyard and find a 98-01ish truck and hopefully just unbolt the unit out of that (for my 99 F150)..

That would probably only cost 15-20$ or so, and I like the Factory Feel about it.
I would have no problem wiring it myself... I was just wondering if it was even possible to begin with.

 

i seriously doubt that would be anywhere near plug and play. thats why there is very little ever said about it. if you bring your truck to the dealership to have it added after purchase they install one of the code alarm manufactured bronze, silver, or gold systems. im sure that anything is possible but it would take far too long to do and require way to much hassle to ever be worth it...why wouldnt you just go the much easier route and get an aftermarket that will come with installation instructions.

What I dont get is that I have an XLT, and the owner's manual says "This vehicle is equipped with a keyless entry system" yadda yadda yadda.. it doesnt say "Optional" or "Some vehicles" or anything like that. I wonder if the vehicle had one at one point and was removed, or what.

I dont know why I want the factory one, I just do :P it lets me sleep at night, I guess.

The vehicle will not be a plug-in-play. In fact there are totally different wiring in the vehicle that is equipped with keyless entry and non keyless. On a keyless version you will find smaller gauge pink/green (unlock) and pink/green (unlock) in the harness above the brake that take a simple negative pulse. In a non-keyless equipped vehicle you have to the larger pink/green and pink/yellow wires in half because they are a five wire reverse polarity system. I had a customer bring me a unit that he removed from a vehicle from a local junker. After looking at it and showing him what it would take for me to install it he decided to go with my aftermarket keyless. Besides my unit's range was about 10 times that of the wimpy factory unit.

 

If you got your truck used,someone may have not turned in the remotes with the truck. A guy I knew got a chev pickup used and found out 2 years later that it had keyless entry on it,but there were no remotes that came with it from the car lot.You can go to a dealer and have them run the vin,it will tell what the truck came with when sold new.If it doesn't have it go with KC for a setup,the owner's manual that came with your vel cover alot of things that are not on a vel that you get,but wish you had got with it.
