Remote Starter?

Ok, I've got all kinds of mods going through my head for my truck. One of them is a Remote Starter. I already have keyless entry/alarm. Is there a Remote Starter kit that will take over the work of the existing remote? Or will I have to have two? What's a good brand that's easy to install? I would say my electrical skills are intermediate at best. I have installed a few car stereos and speakers, so if it's no more difficult than that, I can handle it.

Main reason I'm looking at a remote starter is so that I can have the truck running and cooling off during these hot summer days before I have to get into it. I know that sounds trivial, but it's just tooooo damned hot down here lol..

TIA

you make no note of the mfgr of the alarm / RKE you have installed.

The safe bet for correct operation is to get a Ford gold series, or the Code alarm version of a CA-630, and remove the one you have installed.

I guess there is a way to make the remote start and the alarm work together, but why chance it.

Take a look over at Travis' site : http://www.kcautosound.com/

You can pay the extra 25.00 for the kit, and get the unit setup for you specific MY, along with the wiring diagram for it. He has the CA-630s for 149.00, add to this the 25.00, and you are in business with an afternoon install, for under 200.00. Couple the low cost with the known it works with what you have, and you are all set ( Code Alarm is the mfgr that Ford OEMs for the bronze , silver, gold versions ).

If you go with a remote start only, and try to make it work with the alarm you have already, this is the CA-420, which is going to cost 114.99 + the 25.00 pre wire fee.

Don't forget the PATS bypass module, if you have 99+ MY truck ( no truck profile info filled out...so I can;t say one way or the other. Might want to complete the info, so you get correct info moving forward )

Thanks for the info Scully, I also updated my profile to reflect my truck. I have a 98 F150 Lariat (3 door). 5.4L Triton V8 blah blah.. The RKE that is installed is straight from the factory, came that way. I have no problem replacing it especially not when the difference in price is less than $50. Again, thanks for the info and I'll look into your links

Same here but yesterday he contacted me. I had a couple questions about my system and wanted a price on a Pioneer AVIC-Z1. He's got a full plate right now. New baby, Ford Accessory Installer, and his business. He mentioned that he had to contact quite a few people. I suggest sending him another email or give him a call. I just left a message and he called me a little while later.

micro masstart 2001 K/E remote start can use its transmitters or the OEM transmitters
The 2003 is also an alarm and can also learn the OEM transmitters.

Most just put away the OEM transmitters and use the new ones.

If your K/E has an empty channel a remote start can be added to it.

You can also use a channel creater or a double lock pulse to activate a remote start on an OEM K/E system.

You have to watch it when you add those remote start systems to OEM keyless entry systems. Some vehicles you will find out such as Fusion and Focus is that after you have started the vehicle the factory key fob will not unlock the doors because the ignition is on. I believe the Ranger and Escape are the same way too but it's been awhile since I have added just a starter to them.

The aftermarket remotes always give you ten times the range of the original so it's usually best to just stick with the newer remote.
