Do not pull it. The proper procedure is to test with the jumper wire and wait till the GEM turns off the relay. If you remove the relay and the draw is reduced you might replace the relay for nothing if it is something else causing the relay to stay on.

Hey just an FYI here: I've recently had a similar issue with my '92: performed all the same diagnostics tests Mr. Benson mentioned, including having the alternator and regulator tested (at autozone...) but my battery stil was draining.

I ended up pulling the alternator to get to the voltage regulator--which turned out to be on the verge of completely failing (brushes worn down 80%, wires frayed). Soon as I get paid I'm replacing the regulator and suspect the problem will cease.

So if you don't find a bad relay consider taking a look at the regulator.

New user--hope that wasn't a "hijack"...
