hotwiring a 1988 f150

I need help with my f150, I have no keys anymore so I need to know how to convert it over to a toggle switch ( to make everything hot that needs to be ) and a pushbutton to start it or give me an idea on how to go about drilling out the old ignition switch. Thanks, e-mail with info if you would like

Well starting it is a minor problem. Getting the steering wheel unlocked is the obsticle.
There should be a little hole on the steering column that you can stick an ice pic or small phillips screw driver in that will let the cylendar to release and come out. Then just use a flat screw driver to turn the mechanism.
I had to nascar wire an 89 because the mechanism broke at the cyl. in the steering column and was to lazy to fix it. Theres a flat rod that runs down the top of the steering column to a box under the dash that makes the connection for everything, something like 7 wires total if I'm not mistaken. Feul pump, fan, radio ect. All trial and error for me but got it in a half hour or so. Because of the wire count you might want to consider 2 toggles.
Anyways, once you get the key cylendar out it can be replaced pretty cheap, just pick one up at napa. Easier than tracking down the wires.

Dan,

Go to the dealer with your registration showing the VIN and they will cut you a new key for, in my case, $4.00. The easy way out.

New key thing isn't going to work. I don't know how you got one, but Ford Keeps key codes for only 5 years. After 5 years, new ignition.

I would have though buying a new ign cylinder and maybe even the door key cylinders.

You want to install a push button start on a truck that you can't lock the doors on ? Are you looking to supply the community truck or something ?

I don't know if a lock smith can cut the door key, or re key them to the new ign cylinder.

Maybe check the bone yards for a truck that was sold to them as scrap, they might have the keys, ign cylinder and door cylinders together, quick fix for the whole thing.

Mine was an 89. Looked pretty crappy. I'd leave tools in the bed, windows down and nobody messed with it. They'd have to be pretty hard up to take it for a spin.

Don't mean to flame, but not a good idea to give someone the info needed to steal Ford trucks.

Just go get another ignition switch, or have a key made for the one you have.
