Exclamation Need help fighting Ford!!!

Please anyone here that had the GEM module fry due to water leakage on the 97-03 models, have you had any luck in Ford covering the repairs?

I just found out today that my bf's 02' F150 w/about 20k miles has to have his windshield re-sealed, GEM Module and panel replaced. He purchased a warranty from Ford but they won't cover it because its caused by water leakage. From browsing on here I see that this is such a common problem! Has anybody had luck with getting Ford to cover the repair and if so how? We have to call them back this afternoon.

Please any advice helps, he had to take 3 weeks off of work unpaid for knee surgery and yesterday was his first day back, we really can't afford this. If we have to pay we will, but its seems very unfair, it will cost somewhere around $700-800 bucks.

Thank You

The windshield caused the problem? If the windshield has never been replaced before, and it's still under warranty, it "all" should be covered no matter what damage the leak did to anything else. Ask for "documented written proof" that it's not covered. If they can't come up with it, they're just trying to screw you out of a warranty.

Call the better business bureau and report it. Get in touch with some higher-ups at Ford. Not a "paid to lie" service technician. They do what the dealer tells them to do. If you get FoMoCo on their asses, they'll do something about it.

I didnt have the same problem, but if you are persistant enough and keep forcing the issue they will give in. I was able to get my roof and the nose of my 02 repainted out of warranty. Keep forcing that the windshield was the cause and led to the water damage.

had same problem in Feb,97 f150,they replaced GEM,windshield leaking, fried new one, they pd for second and labor on distribution box which went as well. They paid to reseal window but would not pay for intial repair. Let us know if you get it paid for. I think many of us agree, they should step up,its not like we are negligent in care of vehicle for something that seems to be a routine problem

Ford should fix it - although I bet if you looked deep into the extended warranty agreement it probably states something about not covering windshield leaks.

You may try to slip it to another dealer.

Good luck.

It only has 20,000 miles on it, but its a 2002.

I think it depends on if its under warranty or not.

Is it???

Call Ford Customer service and advise them of your problem. Beware, not all dealers are alike. Some don't like doing warranty repair cause Ford pays them little money. Check with other Ford dealers. X

When I took him to pick up his truck on Wednesday the dealership's Service Manager said that the extended warranty didn't cover it because the cause was the windshield leaking. The rep that sold my bf the warranty told him that since it still had the factory windshield in it he would "have this all taken care of", however he convienently wasn't there that day. To make a long story short after much "discussion" I was able to get him to make what was about an $800 bill in a $200 bill. The Service Manager said he would get with the warranty guy to see if Ford had decided to cover all of the repairs and if they did then they wouldn't cash my bf's check. Still waiting to hear back about that...

I was wrong it has 25,000 miles on it and yes it is an 02' with the extended warranty purchased from Ford.
