OK, i was wiring in a brake controller yesterday on my 97 F-150, So i disconnected the negative battery terminal like i have always been told to do when I do electrical work... Now when I put the negative cable back on the battery, there was a little bit of sparking, now my CB Radiow will not work. I checked the fuses but they looked ok. I'm not used to glass fuses however so im not completely sure? What do you think happened?

 

I assume the glass fuse is an inline fuse to your CB? How is your CB connected to a power source, direct to the battery or to a fuse box or tapped into the wiring somewhere?

 

Problem solved. Just took out the fuse and put the same one back in and all of a sudden the radio works again, I don't really know what I did but oh well.

And yes it is an inline fuse. Also, Power is taken from the fuse box.

And do u still recommend disconnecting the negative on the battery while doing electrical work?

 

You probably won't get electrocuted working on a 12 volt system and nothing will happen 99% of the time.

Just don't let any of your friends jump in the truck and take it for a trip while your working underneath it.

Yes, my vote is to disconnect the battery when recommended.

Shops that have flammable gases and chemicals increase the possibility of an ignition hazard if wires are crossed and sparks occur.

My vote is yes, disconnect the battery.
