Instrument cluster display question...

I have an 05 FX4 Screw, and was wondering how hard it would be to take the display out of a Lariat and put it in my FX4? I basically want it for the MPG, miles to empty, etc. From what I can tell it is the same size as what is in now, and I have found a totaled Lariat to gut it from. Any input is appreciated.

Search under cluster swap. It has been done several times, fully written up. It's not totally easy, like putting the FX4 cluster in a STX, but it is do able. But you will have to have the PCM programmed 40-80 bucks from the dealer, and you will have to have the mileage adjusted. Most dealers can not do that. Unless the mileage was exactly the same you would have to budget another 50-125 for that. Total will cost you at least 150 bucks, plus the labor plus the cost of the unit.
You can put in a ScanGauge, or an edge for less money and get other features.
Read the threads and see if you want to do it.

Well after some searching and some headaches I can't find anything on it. Is the only way for it to work is by changing out the whole cluster, or can i just swap out the digital readout part, add the necessary computer(s) and wiring, do the PATS thing, and get the mileage taken care of? (I love run-on sentences) Or if you know where to find the info point me in the right direction. Thanks!
