Keyless Entry 2004 1/2 Supercrew (New Body)

Need assistance in troubleshooting my keyless entry. I bought a door handle for the drivers side with keyless entry pad on it. Tried to program by owners manual instructions but nothig. I had the card with the code on it and tried it also. My truck did not have keyless entry when I bought it. But everything plugs in. Is there a way to get it to work? I was thinking it was a fuse that needs to be put in to place but am not sure. Does it need to be programmed by the Dealership or can I have it done myself? HELP!!

Lets go down the basic list.

1. When you press any button, does the keypad light up ?
1.1. The first key pressed should illuminate the whole pad ( all 5 buttons )

2. If #1 is yes, when you press the 7/8 & 9/0 keys at the same time, do the doors lock ( MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR KEYS IN YOUR HAND ).

3. If #2 is a yes, when you enter the factory code on the card, does the driver's door unlock ? ( I think this is no from yoru post above ).

4. If #3 is a yes, if you press the 3/4 key after the factory code unlocked the driver's door, do the other door(s) unlock ? ( same as #3, no good )

5. If you made it this far, the key pad is 100% operational, then it seems you are having a problem programming a personal code then ?

6. What trim level is the truck ? ( XL, XTL, FX-4, etc ).
6.1. What body is it ( std cab, SCab, SCrew ) ?

7. Are you the origional owner of the truck, or a second / third ?
7.1. I ask, as that may not be your factory manual in the glove box, if you got it at a dealer, and that is the factory code for some other poor owner.
7.2. I hope it is your code, as digging to the BSM ( Body Security Module ) is not a fun task, but can be done.

Let us know about these, and we can go from there.

is the huge thread on this subject. Some have plugged them in and they worked, some had the dealer 'turn it on' others the dealer can not figure it out. In this thread there are descriptions you can show the shop.

On my STX there was no chance of it working, no harness, no module. So when I put my keypad handle on I had to wire it up from scratch. You just need it turned on.

NO.

Like I said no sir. Does not light up.

2. If #1 is yes, when you press the 7/8 & 9/0 keys at the same time, do the doors lock ( MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR KEYS IN YOUR HAND ).
N/A-- see step one.

3. If #2 is a yes, when you enter the factory code on the card, does the driver's door unlock ? ( I think this is no from yoru post above ).
Factory code that came wih the truck does not even light up the keypad numbers.

4. If #3 is a yes, if you press the 3/4 key after the factory code unlocked the driver's door, do the other door(s) unlock ? ( same as #3, no good )
See answer #3.
5. If you made it this far, the key pad is 100% operational, then it seems you are having a problem programming a personal code then ?
See answer #1.
6. What trim level is the truck ? ( XL, XTL, FX-4, etc ).
XLT
6.1. What body is it ( std cab, SCab, SCrew ) ?
Super Crew
7. Are you the origional owner of the truck, or a second / third ?
Original Owner!
7.1. I ask, as that may not be your factory manual in the glove box, if you got it at a dealer, and that is the factory code for some other poor owner.
Who knows? I got my truck brand spankin new. They could of mixed up the owners manuals but doubt it.

7.2. I hope it is your code, as digging to the BSM ( Body Security Module ) is not a fun task, but can be done.
Can it be done? How? or Who can do it? I know the dealer might be able too. But how much $$$ will it be?

If you take a look at the ChrisAdams put up, seems that some are programmed, others not.

With that said, I am going to drop you an email via your profile.

The 2005 shop manual might provide you some insight ( don't have my 2004 handy at the moment ).
It makes no note of needing to program the keypad into the VSM ( again this is the 2005, not 2004 shop manual ).
It gives the test points to check for when the door key pad does not work, so this might tell you if the wiring is installed, or if you have to go the route of ChrisAdams, and wire it up yourself.

See what happens after you get the pdf, and run the test points.

I'm almost 100% positive that the card that came with the unit you bought is worthless. The code is actually pre-embedded in every truck's main computer. Supposedly if you look under the driver side dash there is a sticker with the code in plain site. Try that code... (If you can't find it, do searches...I read about that somewhere)

That is the pre 2004 location of the CSM / RAP ( not the PCM, I don't know what you were calling the "main computer". That sounds PCM like to me. )
This is where you are taling about for pre 2004 :

On the 04+ the BSM is behind the rear seat for the SCab and SCrew, and in the C pillar ( just below the rear speaker ) for the Std Cab.

Teh 5 digit code on the card is the same as the one on the unit, else why put a 5 digit code in the owner's manual. I know my '01 SCrew came with a 5 digit card, and no door key pad. I added the '01 door key pad, and the 5 digit code in the wallet was the correct one ( matched the sticker on the CSM under the dash )

From the answer to my question #1, the key pad is not getting power at all. With that in mind, the 5 digit code on the card can't be verifyed and needs to go on hold until the test points for the Key pad are run from the shop manual section on latches, and entry.

The code matches to the remote system computer. I looked at the black box behind the rear seat and saw it. I also noticed one of the plug-ins are not used.

SCully

yeah man thanks for the PDF file on the keyless entry. Just need to find the day to do it. Hopefully in the next week. I need a multimeter, have been needing one for a while, so that is just the problem for now.

Thanks!

I have a Fluke WMM-23 DMM, that my dad gave me when I went to school. Been through hell and back and still works.

Dad uses Fluke meters on his truck ( electrican ) but in the garage he has some "trash pile" DMM from Radio Shack or the likes.
It does everything he needs to do in the garage for working on stuff. Does V-A-Ohms, & Continuity. It is not an auto range meter like the Fluke, but big deal, manual selection of the range you are reading, no hold function ( fluke has a read hold, and peak hold function on it ).
It looks something like this :

So now days, it seems the ones you can get anywhere work just as well as the expensive ones, sans the geek like features. These are Digital, so you can't use them to test for sulfated cells on batteries, but unless you still have a maintance type battery around ( motorcycle ) you don't need the analog meter.

Good luck finding a meter, let us know when you move forward on the testing

Did the troubleshooting..

On the harness in the door. Then the black box with the code for the door keypad has a harness missing. Is that What I need to get my keypad to work? One of the slots does not have a harness connected to it.

I've got a question. Did the neat little deal to my truck yesterday. Got it installed, everything was working great right until the point when i tried to unlock it with the keypad. It did nothing. It lights up, i can lock it with 7/8-9/0, but when i put my code it, it does nothing. I know i have the right code because i have the wireless keypad that the battery had died/doesn't work sometimes, but then does sometimes. Any sugguestions on where to start or do i need to take it to the dealership? Could it be that my wireless one is still near the truck and that is why it isn't working. I did disconnect the battery before i plugged it in. Let me know. Thanks!

Are you talking about the wireless stick on that has the same 5 buttons?
