Locks Sticking???
Locks Sticking???
I just noticed today that when I click my keyless entry fobs that my driver's side door sometimes sticks and it will either not lock or unlock. If I hit the button a couple of times, it seems to work then, but in steps (lock pops up 1/4 of the way the first time button is pushed, second time goes to 1/2, then all the way).
Any thoughts on if the lock is just sticking (it if freezing cold here today) or if I will need to replace the mechanism/actuator as I have read that they tend to go bad? What is all needed to do the swap myself (tools, knowledge, etc...)? BTW, no problems with the passenger side lock.
Thanks.

I am having the same problem with my '99 F250. It started as not working well, only unlocking a bit at a time, but now it won't unock the drivers door at all. The passenger door opens first try every time. Anyone have a fix for this?
Quick search would reveal that it's a common problem. Most of the time you have to replace the motor/actuator. Im having that problem with my truck also, and my friend's dad's f-250's power locks completely quit working. Very common problem and is really annoying isnt it?

It is almost definitely the Door Lock Actuators. You can pick up a universal actuator at Bestbuy for around $30. It has more than enough power to get the job done.
When replacing, you'll find the old door actuators are in a very hard to remove spot, which led me to my decision on NOT to take them out. I can't remember EXACTLY where I mounted the new one, but if you get creative with it, and make sure that it's not in the way of the window track it should work fine.
Make sure when routing the aluminum pipe like actuator operators they work and won't bind when operating.
Good luck
