Question '05 OBD-II Issue

I just recieved my new OBD-II scan tool and wanted to check/clear codes after plugging in all I get is "-04 -05 err"

I verified it was not the tool by clearing the repeating O2 sensor on my wifes minivan and it nailed it no problem.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

tuckmt

check fuse #40 (I think that is the correct number) Its the same one that powers the 12v port. Had the same problem when i recieved my edge. No power going to obdII port.

What make and model is your scanner? The van is probably a 96-03 which does work with a standard OBD-2 scanner.

Most likely, it's obsolete for the 04 and up vehicles as they have switched to the CAN (Control Access Network) protocol for most newer vehicles.

Look for a scanner with the CAN inteface.

Has anyone tried to connect a regular OBD2 scanner to your 04-06 F150?

What error did you get?

I saw "04-05 Err"

Is this consistant with others...?

I just ordered a CAN compatible OBD tool.

Just making sure I didn't have another issue.

OBDII is the name of the present version of EPA diagnostics and control for all general use in America.
The new CAN actual system configuration does not change the intent, only the hardware makeup and inter section communications.
The protocol and output are in different versions from the last that is used.
The CAN system is to be standard for all makes by 2007.
