GEM Module?

I've been having problems with my wipers or washers not working, 4wd not kicking in at all, low range light will come on in low, but no hi range at all, but nothing actually engages, no dome light, etc. My dome light and wipers quit working a few months ago, but 4wd was still fine at the time, it snowed/sleeted today and I thought I would try the 4wd out, but it never engaged. I'm almost certain my GEM is shot, but I have searched and searched and haven't found one yet.

I'm assuming it's a dealer only part or is there some place to get another one? Any cures on the window leaking problems? Is there a certain place that it usually leaks at?

Thanks,
BT

Check the upper driver's side corner of the windshield for leaks. It usually runs a path along the A-pillar and into the GEM/CJB. As far as I know, it's a dealer only item. The windshield will have to be resealed/replaced to repair the water leak. Before that though, check the engine compartment grounds, especially the ones at the passenger's side of the firewall near the starter solenoid.

Thanks Quintin,

I'll check the grounds tomorrow. Don't guess anyone knows a ballpark figure on what Ford would charge to fix the GEM? I read somewhere that it was a safety issue and should be fixed for free, but then again my truck isn't under warranty (97) anymore. Doubt they would still do it for free? Don't want to sound so cheap, but things like that should be fixed at the factory it seems to me. oh well.

Thanks for the help,
BT

I called a local dealership and they told me it was around 200 just for the GEM. Thought about trying to replace it myself and reseal the window. Just hope a new fuse box isn't needed as well as you mentioned. Wonder if there is anyway to check that before ordering the new GEM?

This is really getting to me now. After the last time it rained, my truck has developed a horrible misfire and is running as rich as can be. Could this also be part of the GEM since it started right after it rained?

One last thing. Did you call Ford about the problem with your windshield? I know there was a post about calling it in and trying to get a recall called for it. Hopefully enough of us will call and complain that Ford will reimburse or pay for the recall to fix all of this stuff.

Here's a link I found to the thread about the recall. It also has the number to Ford's Customer Relations. https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...ctronic+Module

Thanks for all the help,
BT

Bump...

Looked around a little more but haven't found anything on misfires related to the GEM. Is it possible that it could be the culprit of the misfires? Also, is there a thread somewhere that shows how to change it out exactly? I have a few diagrams of the wiring, etc. but nothing on how to change it out. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
BT
