Is this true ?

Q: My truck idles roughly or stalls at idle. What could be the problem?

A: A fairly common idle related malfunction in these trucks seems to be the Idle Air Control valve motor. This valve sits on top of the throttle body and holds the butterfly valve open at idle so the engine can breathe. A sluggish or malfunctioning IAC will prevent a constant idle. The problem sometimes only presents its self when the engine in cold. This certainly isn’t the only thing that can cause a rough idle, but If you find yourself having to keep pressure on the gas pedal to keep the engine running, this may be a place to start. Typically, just cleaning doesn’t offer any improvement, if the IAC is faulty, it usually needs to be replaced.
For some pictures of the IAC take a look at Fordman311's gallery at http://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gall...&albumid=14860

This was taken from another site. This is the trouble Im having too and need you guys to tell me it's true before I replace it.
Thanks Gator.

My '01 SCrew w/ 5.4L would have a stall problem at closed throttle when it was really cold out. I cleaned my IAC, and it stopped happening. My only guess as to why when it was cold, is what ever was gumed up in the IAC would not allow the IAC to open the valve when it was cold. When it warmed up, the problme would go away.
I have some pictures of the IAC for my truck in my gallery, showing the little plunger that the motor moved back and forth. When it gets gummed up, it does not move all the way, or at all.
Quick cleaning will do it wonders at idle.

Some comment on the IAC.
It isn't a 'motor' as often mentioned.
It is a spring loaded and operation damped shaft that regulates air bypassing the throttle plate.
The computer 'pulses' the device against it's mechanical properties in order to have fine control of the air bypass function.
The air control section is subject to EGR exhaust and accumulation of gum/sludge deposits from crankcase vapors from the PCV system.
