Losing power to entire truck.
Losing power to entire truck.
I have a 97 F150 4x4 with almost 140,000 miles on it. I know it's been through some rough times before I bought it, but here's my problem. Every now and then when I turn the key to start my truck it loses power completely. The radio presets and time will reset. Tonight I went to start it and turned the key completely forward with nothing happenning. Turned it back and tried it again and it started after a slight delay. It just started doing this here lately. I have two amps and a scanner besides all of the stock stuff, but I didn't figure that would have anything to do with it. I just recently replaced the alternator so I know the battery is getting a good charge. The negative terminal connector on the battery is pretty corroded, would that cause it to lose connection so easily? I have replaced the positive side not too long ago.
If a connection was bad on the starter it wouldn't cause the whole truck to lose power would it?
Any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks,
BT

The Neg side of the battery being corroded, could have something to do with it taking ( or not taking ) a charge.
Actually just because you have a new alternator, does not mean that the battery is takng the good charge. It could be a case of the battery is on the way out.
Try some baking soda mixed with water to clean the terminals, and maybe putting a trickle charger on the battery overnight, to see if it continues.
If so, maybe the battery is toast, and needs to be replace.
Just a few thoughts without any additional info.
Good luck, let us know what happens
