Replacing a clock switch

1994 f150 xlt

I believe I have a faulty clock switch. Airbag light flashes, horn and speed control does not work. Fuses are fine. From an earlier post, I gather this switch goes out pretty often. Well, I'm going to try a tackle this my self.

Is this easy to do? will the airbag explode in my face?

Is there a way I can take the old one out first and check it. That way I won't have an expensive part I don't need sitting in my house. Ford very strict on returns-been there - done that.......

Any advise greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks Brian NC
