P0402 trouble code

Hi everybody,

I just got the "service engine" light on my 2002 4.6L F150. I bought an ODBII reader and the code stored in the computer is P0402. Has any one ran into this problem and what was the fix? I don't have the codes to decipher what is wrong with my truck.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Your 402 code is telling you there is excess EGR flow.
The EGR is stuck off it's seat.
This should be causing a bit of a rough idle depending on how far open the EGR is stuck open.
Clear the problem, then clear the code with you scanner. Don't clear the code by removing the battery lead.
If you didn't fix it it will take 3 engine use cycles for the CEL to return so don't get excited until into the third time you use the truck.

More likely a faulty DPFE than the EGR valve stuck open.

Both are possible, though.
