Question Random Wiper Operation - Wheel Turn

Every now and then my wipers will operate once when I am turning the streering wheel to the left. This happens even with the wiper switch off. The column has never been apart, and other than this, everything works fine. Any ideas?

This may be the problem fix

Click on this link it explains the multifunction switch very well. There is one thing to stress, after cleaning the small contacts be sure to smear the contacts with fresh dielectric grease also the whole switch does not need to be removed---only the small end cap (remove by prying with a small knife) This is a common problem with our trucks causing phantom windshield wiper wipes.----------------------- thanks Jimb

Actually, the switch end generally only works for wipers that WON't cycle when they're turned on. The infamous 'Ghost Wipers' are generally caused by a bad multifunction switch.

Sure, burst my bubble. What is involved with changing the switch? Does the steering wheel need to be removed?

Clean the contacts first

If I may say, clean the contacts first, it costs nothing and should only take a few min and if there is more that needs repaired ---go from there--------mine did exactly the same thing as yours and cleaning and adding fresh di-electric grease fixed the problem. These small contacts get moisture on them and cause a circuit to be completed to the wiper control module (GEM) when this happens the wipers come on even though the switch is off. There is very little voltage needed for this circuit to be complete, moisture can cause the circuit to be complete. By turning the steering wheel you may be giving just the added jolt to cause circuit completion.

I'll try cleaning/relubing first anyway. How hard is it to remove/replace the switch?
