Multifunction switch blues, help!

Hello,

New member here. 1998 F150 Supercab, 4.6 V-8, Philly suburbs.

I was having a headlight problem. I was getting high beams only. Advice from this forum reccomended replacing the multi-function switch which is what I did. I replaced the multi-function switch with one that I purchased from an advertiser on this site. It was part MMM SW5580.

As soon as I installed the new switch, the headlights worked fine. I was thrilled. I thought the problem was solved.

HOWEVER, as soon as I turned on the truck, the wipers started running at full speed. I moved the wiper controls back and forth but nothing. The wipers were still running. The washer fluid would also start to squirt as I moved the wiper controls back and forth.

One thing to note, I did not disconnect the battery when I swapped out the switch. I hope that did not cause any problems.

Your help and suggestions would be very very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Ken

Just for future reference, I went to the local Ford dealer. The parts guy had me try the switch listed for the other engine code (Vin code 6), even though my Vin code is W. Well, it worked. Anyway, I guess it's good to get several opinions. Thanks to this site and its members for sharing your knowldge. My next project is to figure out why I don't have heat now.

Thanks,

Ken
