Hard wire radar in a 2003 supercrew lariat

ok i bought the hardwire kit and tested it out on the battery to see if it works right. It does. So now i want to hardwire it so when truck on the radar on and truck off radar off. I was thinking of running it from my compas how do i get the plastic piece off and what wires would be the hot ones and what one would not be hot. all help appreciated. I do not know anything about wiring so i dont want to short anything out on my truck i rather zap the radar.

Use the fuse box

Tap into the fuse box. It wont be a problem at all. Do you have a test light? Check one of the unused fuse blocks (ex. daytime running lights or heated seats if your vehicle doesnt utilize these) and tap into one of these fuse relays. Just remember to put an inline fuse in your wire or you may toast your new radar detector.

Tapping into the fuse box is the correct thing to do - if you use the correct method. Make sure to use a proper fuse tap system - such as Add-A-Circuit at the fuse box itself. If you use one of those, you will get the in-line fuse with the product. Do not - and I repeat - do not, just hack into a harness!

I wired my V1 into the overhead console. Nothing wrong with this since the factory fuse (#23) is 10A. The Radar Detector draws about 1/2A. Plus it has a 1A fuse in the wire harness.

Run power wire is White with a Light Blue stripe.
Ground is Black with a Light Blue stripe.

Note these colors are from a 2000 F150. Using a multimeter and checking volt/ground is a very good idea.

The console is held up by a single screw up front. The back just pops out.
