auto on headlights
may be a dumb question, but why??? Bulbs won't last long and everyone will be flashing theirs at you trying to tell you they are on. GM has the dumb idea of always burning parking lights I had a TA and replaced the same damn bulb 3 times in 3 years, very aggravating because when it blowed the blinkers stopped also!!
Om my '02, the sensor is in the middle of the dash. I think on the newer ones the sensor is in the same little tit with your red LED antitheft light on your dash.
BTW, I agree with those above. I hate people who leave their lights on all the time. If someone can't see a 6000 lb truck, what makes you think the lights are gonna help? All they do is distract other drivers.

Lots of cars, those sold in Canada, GM for several years, etc. come stock with always on lights, no other option.
The lights shouldn't distract you as they are not at full power. Also, compared to daylight the brightest bulbs on the market are less candle power than a shiny bumper.
All studys have shown headlights on reduce accidents, so here in California if the wipers are on, or you are driving one of the 80 or so designated dangerous roads, you are required to have your lights on at all times.
On my Tracker it is nice that I don't even know where the headlight switch is. Never needed it.
Still, I do think that you should have the choice. You get slightly better gas mileage with them off.

you can add the additional sensors for the DRL's. I'm not sure about the 04,05 but the 97-03 you just added a sensor to the existing harness.

The aforementioned alarm LED "tit" has the light sensor. A down & dirty application of several layers of window tint over the sensor might just do the trick.
Since the Canadian trucks are made south of the border, I'm pretty sure that our trucks have the DRL harness already in them, but are missing the relay and/or loop back. It's referenced in the owners manual and drops the light voltage from 12V to 10V.
