keyless entry in door handle

Recently upgraded my 04 XLT door handle to a keyless entry. I replaced the whole handle and pluged it into the exisitng wiring that was set up for keyless entry. After the install I pluged in my key code that came with the truck and nothing happened. My question is why does the key pad not work? Does a dealship have to activate it?

Yes or no. We have had posters that had to take it in to the dealer and have the feature turned on in the PCM, and two others said it worked out of the box.
I am assuming you hooked er up right. Probably not a lot of choices...
Did you try removing the battery cable and letting it sit a minute, then re hooking? Probably won't help, but...

also, does the lock doors function work? Forget the numbers to press, it's in the owners manual.
That would tell you if it's just a wrong code thing.

I put one in my truck, but as it's an STX I had to design my own system, no harness, no module.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Their are two types of keyless touchpads one is digital and one is analog. the expedition uses the digital and the f150 at least until 2003 uses analog. The main diference is the plug and the switch function. Needless to say they are not interchangable . If you remove the drivers door panel on your f150 and the keyless door plug is taped to the harness just behind the speaker you are set. Install the Touchpad copy the 5 didgit number off the rap module located just to the left of the brake petal and up a bit enter this number to open your door. touch the two right buttons at the same time and your door will lock . I converted mine 2 years ago and would not have a truck with out it.

easy than i thought

Chris i read several posts before i installed mine. I was very surprised mine worked first time .Yes all functions work as the dealer said IE 5 didgit number off the RAP mod open the door. 2 far right buttons at the same time lock my truck. pushing any button iluminates the keypad and the dome light. must be dumb luck on my part.

Glad yours worked out, I'm e-mailing back and forth with another member, his did not work
Dealer will have to turn it on.

I used a module from an analog unit on a digital keypad, but as I say, my truck didn't even option it, and had no wiring, GEM, etc.

I had to put an analog module (ten bucks from a salvage yard) a relay, and modify/build the harness.
So it is a seperate system from my Ford Deluxe Alarm/Keyless that I installed a few weeks earlier.

Keypad is a nice option and was well worth the work it took to make it work.
