Question All lights pulse at idle.

2001 4x4 super cab. No non factory options. Lights pulse at idle. replaced alternator and belt. Still occured. Removed and cleaned engien grounding strap at cowl. Pulled and reinstalled any fuse and module that said anything about battery. Problem seemed to go away. Has anyone else had this problem?? Been 1 day still OK, but would like to know if it will re-occur.

Sounds a lot like a bad ground, how dirty was the cowl ground? Grounding the engine to the chassis is the worst electrical bottleneck on a car/truck.

Talking

Chris,

Cowl ground was oxidized and green. Cleaned with wire brush and resecured. Also cleaned and resecured battery cables and posts. One other thing I did was jumper cabled connection directly from (-) bat to alternator housing. Problem went away but re-occured (I hate electical mysteries) Like I said the issue seems to be OK for now. Can you think of any other grounding locations that I should check so problem does not come back?
Thanks for the advise so far.

Jim

There are hundreds, sorry I can't be specific, I would have to mail you dozens of schematics.
On many cars/trucks the dash grounds get loose if the vehicle has been in an accident, flood, or had lots of off road.
I have a tendancy on off-roaders to get cheap ground straps at pick-a-part, and add a few extras... You can never have to many grounds.
two bucks worth of extra staps on polished metal cures a lot of ills...
