Trip odometer toggle?

I have an '05 XLT FX4 with the "mini message center" odometer. Whenever I toggle the odometer to trip odometer display it always switches back to odometer when I turn the truck off and start it again. Is this normal or do I need to do something else to keep the display on trip?

I had to push it like twice on the trip and hold it to reset it. It's a little different than the older trucks..

I read the owner's manual and it didn't say anything about returning to odometer mode when the vehicle is turned off.

I was wondering the same thing about mine. I read the owners manual and it didn't say how to keep it on the odo function on restart.

Was this ever solved? Anybody know how to keep the trip odometer displaying after the engine has been shut down and restarted?

I have a friend with a 2004 F150 and his stays on the trip odometer. I can't get my 2006 to stay with the trip odometer. It's not mentioned in the owner's manual, at least not in the section about the instrument panel.

Not to be a smart @$$ or anything, just hit the button to go back to the trip odometer when you start the truck again.

Now it's staying on the trip odometer. The only thing I've done is set it to trip odometer twice in the same day. Apparently if you set it to trip odometer a couple of times in one day it stays on. I'll report if it remains on trip odometer after I drive the truck tomorrow.

Nope. It's reverted back to showing the total mileage on the truck, not the trip odometer.
