Dumb Starter/Alt question...electrical system in the desert

Is it ok to contininously start stop and restart the engine? Does it wear down the starter/alt/battery needlessly? Continuously means every few miles...three or four times an hour.

I am wondering...because I will be out in the high desert photographing for a few weeks and away from towns and service...and of course, I would like to do all I can to avoid getting stranded. I have the fuel and tires parts of the survival puzzle covered but feel the electrical may be the weak link.
