1988 302 4x4 Timing
What is the plug order on top of the distributor cap, also how do you set the timing. (Just un due the screw on the distributor post where it goes into the engine and turn as required?)
The 88 is the old 302 fire order not the high output. There is a difference.
You have fuel injection so the SPOUT plug has to be removed first in the cable to the distributor. This keeps the computer from changing the timing because you are trying to set (base) timing.
Then do the normal timing lite routine setting to 10* BTC on the pulley and tab by rotating the dist a small amount either way.
Then put the plug back in.
THE FIRE ORDER IS 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8.
The cylinders are numbered starting on the pass side front as 1-2-3-4 then jumps to the other side front as 5-6-7-8.
The cap usually has a mark on it to show where #1 is then wire in the direction the rotor turns. Tick the starter with the cap off to see this.
