shifter locked up
shifter locked up
I am sure this has been handled many times over as it is probably happened to others before. But here is the problem-- I own a '95 F-150 supercrew flareside and on two seprate occasions my column shifter has locked up following the ABS light blinking. The first time it caught me off guard and am slighly embarrassed to say it took me 3+ plus hours of tearing my truck apart and consulting the owners manual and the Haynes manual I own to finally (by accident mind you) discover it was a blown fuse. I replaced the fuse put my truck back together and was fine for about a month then it happened again. This I just changed the fuse, I took it to a mechanic for an unrelated problem and explained to him what had happened. They said they couldnt recreate the problem therefore couldnt diagnose it. I pose the question to the wonderous people on this board, do you know what causes this problem and more importantly how to fix it?
Could be a lot of things on that circuit. On mine it was the brake pressure sensor(which I just unplugged and haven't had a chance to replace yet, as discussed in this thread https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=198098 ). I understand the brake light switch and related wires at the pedal are often the cause, as well as broken wires at the brake lights at the back of the truck. On mine it was fairly easy to troubleshoot, because it wasn't intermittent. As soon as I put a fuse in, it would blow, so I just started unplugging one thing at a time until I found the short. I'd check the wires on yours, and then just wait to see what happens before I started replacing parts.
