Lightning fog light install on non-lightning F150?
My husband and I bought a 2001 F150 XLT extended cab which the previous owner converted into a "Lightning replica." We think he must have wanted the Lightning look but needed the extended cab (it was his work truck). It has the Lightning front fascia, wheels, and tires, along with a cowl hood and it is lowered. Anyway, the front fascia has only empty holes where the fog lights should be. I called the parts department at the Ford dealership and the guy didn't think we could hook up the Lightning fog lights to our F150 because of differences in the wiring. Does anyone know anything about this or have any input? I don't know enough about the wiring to make any judgment calls on whether or not it is possible, but I would like to know if it is before I put down the money to order parts. I would really like to fill in those useless, empty holes with some nice, functional lights for my husband's birthday. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

IF the truck is pre-wired for foglights from the factory, then you should be able to add them. Besides the fog light equipment, you will have to change out the headlight switch to the one with the foglight option and you might have to install the foglight relay in the fuse panel under the hood.
With that said, I would highly recommend you just get a set of aftermarket fog lights and install them instead of the factory ones. Why??:
1) Factory fogs are quite expensive to buy
2) Both kinds (glass fogs 1999-2000 and the plastic ones 2001+) have had problems cracking.
I had my L front end installed by the dealer when I bought the truck new in Dec. 2000. Since then, I have replaced the glass fogs 4 or 5 times. In January I had a new front end put on after someone pulled out in front of my wife while she was driving the truck. The dealer installed some aftermarket fogs (for some reason) that really did not fit well. I have purchased some other aftermarket fogs to replace those. Cost was around $60, whereas the Ford factory fogs are going to run you probably around $100 - $150 each, especially if you have to buy the mounting hardware.
Just my opinion

I have not installed them yet, but I bought some Cyberwhite 4" foglights at Pep Boys. They have a lighted ring around the edge of the fog (simulates the angel eye look of the BMWs) which I probably won't use, but the fog itself looks good. The ideal size for the opening is around 4.5", but those are hard to come by. Hella makes one, but I do not think it has been released yet.
I am headed to Myrtle Beach bike week next week, so I hope to get these fogs installed before we head out. I will let you know how it goes and try and post some pics once completed.

I got a set of APC's at autozone with the little led rings on them for 60 dollars last week. Installed and wired them this weekend. The factory lights crack. I hope these will hold up for a long time. It is simple to wire up aftermarket lights. I didn't even have to cut any of the factory wiring.
