Angry Gearshift Lock/interlock

Help! low mile 97 F-150 XLT 4X4 Reg. cab. All of a sudden, MOST of the time when you start engine and step on the brake it wont unlock gearshift and come out of park. I have to shut off, turn key one click, put in neutral, start truck and go from there. It just started the other day, Happens most of the time. Is there a switch connected to the brake pedal that controls this interlock? I know the cruise control deactivate switch is there and the brake light switch too. Is this controlled by either of them? THANKS FOR ANY HELP, send to gaburn11@aol.com

The shifter interlock should release when you step on the brake with the engine started. Next time it fails to release, check to see if your brake lights work. The interlock is on the same switch and is released when the Brake On/OFF (BOO) switch is depressed.

GOT IT!!! DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR NOISY???

If I checked this yesterday I might have saved some time with the test light. I checked brake lights and nothing. I checked every fuse inside and out, all good. Then I looked at switch. A little pull and the green with the red tracer game right off. There was no corrosion on it so, I think it was a bad crimp when made. I dont think the brake pedal travels that much so I dont think that the wire is to tight/short but I'll keep my eye on it. Works fine now.
ALSO PASSENGER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR MAKES NOISE WHEN LOCKING BUT, STILL WORKS AND HAS POWER. IT JUMPS UP AND DOWN QUICKLY WHEN LOCKING BUT STAYS DOWN AFTER A SECOND OR TWO OF DOING THIS??????? TIME TO REPLACE?? WHICH ONES ARE THE SAME????
