Question outside cab lights

Hi all, im new here and I just got a 98 F150 and I had a question concerning the lights on the back of the cab above the pickup bed.
I thinks its a brake light and 2 reverse lights maybe?
Anyway I put new bulbs in and they still dont work and theres also water in it, the sockets are goooey and coroded. I was wondering where i can pick up a new one?

Thanx~Matt

I think from what you described unless it's something somebody has added on then it is the third brake light and cargo light assembly. I'm sure you know the third brake light but the cargo lights should come on when you open the doors or turn your interior light switch all the way up. If your dome light is on they should be too. For price I would check salvage yards. Because of thier location the assemblys are bad about the weather seals going out. All the water running back off the top of the cab while your driving in the rain runs right down into them when it does. There should be some dielectric grease on them that is the gooey stuff, that is good you want that and if you replace the assembly you will want to make sure to put plenty on them too. But I would say check bulbs and connector plug if dome light works it shouldn't be a fuse I think they are the same as the dome light and dash lights fuse.

The third brake light is a seperate circuit than the cargo lights so if niether are working then clean the area on back of the assembly housing that touches the cab. Clean any rust, dirt, etc to give the assembly a good ground to the Cab.

Hope this helps!

It is your 3rd brake light, or as Ford calls it your "high lamp." After almost 7 years of sun exposure your casing might start to discolor, become brittle and start to crack. I had the rear window on my '97 replaced due to leakage and they gronked the mounting screws (there are 2, one on each side) on my high lamp and that caused cracking.

They gooey stuff you refer to is the corrosion of metal parts in the socket that have been exposed to water (moisture) over time. Your high lamp may have finally given up after so much exposure. You can either buy a new one from a Ford dealer (about $40) or get one from a junkyard. It is only held to the body with the 2 aforementioned screws and has a plug to connect it to the body wiring harness. I don't know if your wiring is the same as my '97, but you may have to take down the rear portion of the headliner to get to the plug.

When you get the new one it will have bulbs already in it, but I recommend some dielectric grease for the sockets to help keep the moisture out in the future.

I hope this helps.

By the way, the 3 lights are your 3rd brake light and 2 cargo lights that come on with your dome light.
