Open door chime on an 02?

When I turn the ingnition key to aux, crank up the tunes and leave my drivers door open, there is a continuous chime.

Anyone know either how to turn this off or where this chime is so that I can remove it?

Thank you.

Turn the volume **** clockwise till the chime stops...or at least till you can't hear it any more

While I've never paid much attention to it, I don't recall hearing my door chimer go off when I had the car in AUX. May have to check this out tonight for S&G...

Unfortunately you can't just pull a fuse to make it stop. If you do you'll make other things stop. Auxiliary functions are usually grouped together in the fuse box (door chime, dome light, etc...).

If you are determined to not be reminded your keys are in the ignition and are running down your battery in aux with the door open then you'll need to do some research. There is a pin switch in the door that activates the chime warning. The wires run through the rubber boot from the door to the body (near the hinge). You'll need to remove the kick panel to gain access to the wire bundle. You'll also need to remove the door sill panel (that you step on to get into your truck) as in overlays the kick panel.

Now for the hard part. You need to find out which wire colors go to the switch for the CHIME only. You don't want to end up cutting the common switch wires or your dome light won't come on when you open the door ever again (unless that's what you want). You also need to find out if the switch closes or opens the circuit to activate the chime. If it opens the circuit the cut the wires going into the door and solder/crimp them together. If it closes the circuit then cut the wires going into the door and insulate them so the exposed ends never make contact with anything.

That should take care of it. If you want to open both doors then do the same thing for the passenger door.

I hope that helps and have fun killing your battery (I recommend an Optima red top as a replacement)!

Interesting method Brian, and one I would have never thought of. However, one step toward improving your concept would be to install a single pole, single throw (on/off) switch so that you could enable/disable the door latch mechanism and thus be able to turn it on and off. If the circuit needs to be broken, put it in "OFF" and if the circuit needs to be closed put it on "ON". If memory serves me, the door latches are "+12V" w/ the door closed and go to ground w/ the door open.

As a follow-up to my previous post, according to the service manual diagram below...

the GEM module will chime if the door is left ajar. If the door is open, the switch will provide a ground to the GEM. The diagram also shows what color wires you need to be looking for (driver side is black/yellow & pass is black/pink). The wires should be accessable via the kick panels. Also note that if you disable this, then chances are your interior lights will NOT come on when you open the door either. I still think the on/off switch idea is the best way around this. You'd have to install one switch per door.

Thank you for the replies.

I was hoping for a sequence of actions like those required to turn off the seat belt warning/alarms.

OR a module that I could pull like the "old days".

Althought, the switch idea has potential!!!

thank you again.

There is a module you can pull...the GEM module, but then again not much of anything would work then

Sorry 'bout that. People have been trying to figure out a way around the open door chime for a while. At least this has some potential for a future thread reader

when you open the door just close the latch in the door with your thumb. Before you close the door lift the handle and flip the latch back out with a pen.
simple really
