4x4 f150 changing floor shift to dash switch parts? how????
Hi all,
I have a 2000 f150 XLT 5.4 4x4. Has the floor lever for the 4x4. I want the dash switch. I found a guy selling a wrecked 2000 f150 with all the right parts. I know I need the dash bezel and switch but what else? I'm assuming the electrical part bolted to the transfer case, some wiring(if mine doesn't alrady have it in the dash) and maybe some sort of brain? Any good ideas here? I haven't even looked under my truck yet to see what the lever looks like at the transfer case.
I have a friend with a 98 EB Expedition with dash 4x4. Is his set up the same? I would love to inventory the parts and see what I need and have his truck handy for the install if it is the same. Thanks,
Chad

I don't have any info for you, but wish you the best of luck...it sounds like a lot to bite on in one bite. God only knows how the Electronic Shift-on-the-Fly interlocks with the rest of the transmission system. It may be advantageous for you to look at some wiring diagrams first to see if this is even feasble.

I'm not sure why you would want to do this. It always seemed to me like something else to break. I am not sure on a ford but the GM's with push-button use a totally different tcase not just a linkage change.
Bunch 'o doubting Thomas'! Just kidding. As far as I know, the tranny/transfer case is the same for all the F150's. I think the only difference is that the lever type has a lever and the switch type has some sort of worm gear actuator bolted to the T-case where the lever goes. I read somewhere, that they are both(lever and switch type) shift on the fly units with computer type controlled syncro's so you can shift into 4x4 up to 55 mph. I only hope I am not missing something here and it is simple as hooking up a switch and bolting on an actuator and fixing a hole in the carpet or at the very least running a few wires to complete the job! I'll let you guys know what I find out when I get the parts in and start poking around. By the way, this all started because I want to install bucket seats and an Expedition console and I do not want to have to heat up and bend the shifter out of the way.
Thanks,
Chad

Wiring Diagrams....
If it's worth anything....these are from the 2003 Ford Service manual.
Electronic Shift on the Fly It's got a good comparison between the MSOF and ESOF.
I'm not challenging anything because I'm sure it can be done...question is "Is it worth it for just a center console?"
