home made car alarm questions...

ok i am a cheapskate and after having my favoritre base model pioneer cd player stolen out of the f150 by means of slim jimming the door unlocked...

i decided i wanted to rig a simple setup just to scare em off,or even alert me that someone is in my truck so i can deal with the situation if the scumbags come back for something else in the truck...

ok i want to know how i would go about wiring everything together for a simple "door open activated horn honkin thingie"...

now me and my bro in law wired something together and after some time and some trial and error we figured out if we run a wire from the fusebox into a regular auto dome light door switch from there run a wire into a toggle switch to kill function when i dont plan to use it ..and from there into a turn signal flasher (to give the desired on/off/on/off effect)..which has a wire running out of it into the horn on the vehicle...

my question is will i be able to run a seperate dome light type door switch with power from the same source and then splice the wire that runs out into the wire that runs into the toggle/kill switch ??...the reason i ask is i dont want to have any type of shorts,or and im not sure if ill be able to run it in series like that having wanted to use the same power source ...

i am only looking for some info on wiring things together and making them work...

any help is appreciated

For the time and effort = $$ you could buy a cheap alarm that would do the same thing.

Car alarms are as cheap as $40.

By buying one - it is designed to do the job you are looking for and the chances of blowing a fuse or worse is reduced.

Well said wiss....no need to reinvent the wheel... You'll easily spend the same amount of money in parts alone. Toggle switches, flashing LED's, wires, inline fuses....hell, a decent siren will cost you $10 alone.

Now I understand that if you want this as a challenge then go for it and get your learn on, but hell, you dished out good money for that CD player, what's a few bux more for something that will protect your vehicle better and more convient than a bunch of toggle switches and jury rigging.
