Factory Alarm Problem

I've got a 2004 F150 XLT SCAB with the "Factory" alarm system installed by the dealer. (I checked under the dash and the alarm brain is a Ford part.) The unit is hypersensitive to the point where it causes it to give warning honks when the driver in the next space slams his door, I run the lawnmower within 20 feet of the truck, a garbage truck drives by, and sometimes even for no apparent reason at all. The manual says you can desensitize the unit by holding a button, rubbing your head while patting your stomach, etc., but nothing will trip it into the "learn mode". The dealer says it might be a bad brain. Has anyone else had this problem or better yet, fixed it? Yeah, I tried locking the truck without setting the alarm, and it'll honk every 5 min. till you set the alarm.

i am noticing my alarm is also super sensitive... my wife can pull her car in the garage and my truck will start chirping...

am I understanding from your post that your alarm will not go into learn mode? Did the dealer give you the instruction book for the alarm? If not let me know and I'll go over the steps with you... I am going to have to do the same thing with my truck...

Unhappy

Thanks for the offer, but I have the Ford booklet for the alarm. The little button under the "armed" light won't do a thing. I even had the dealer's alarm geek try it and he gave up. Let me know if it works for you. Good luck!

If the dealers guy cant get it to work, then could you not take it back and have it fixed under warranty?

Yep! That's Plan B and we'll see where that goes. I'll let you know what the dealer finds. How about you? Are you still under warranty?
