Well after more checking found out that the power windows and door locks work without ignition being on. Acts like the power does not go off when engine is turned off and key is removed, Any suggestions anyone ????? Peskador

I am having the same problem. I tested my ignition switch and everything ohms out OK. I can tell the cylindar inside the steering wheel is OK, so it's not that. I even tested the GEM according to instructions from AllData, and it tests out OK.

Can someone please help us??

I'm just wondering.

Did you by chance install a remote starter system in your truck before you noticed these problems?

I installed a Bulldog system in my truck and had all kinds of weird electrical problems untill I took it back out.

Just a thought.

Ignition staying on

Does your truck have a retain accessory feature? If so check to make sure your door pins are not bad, it should shutdown the accessories as soon as you open the doors in the truck. The RAP feature keeps the radio and windows active until it sees one of the two doors open.

well, yesterday I removed the aftermarket remote start and alarm that were installed back in '98 because they were causing my truck to stay running after I turned the key off and took it out. Removing them solved that problem, but did not solve my door chime problem.

I do not have the RAP feature on my truck...it is a '97 F150.

Thanks.

Possible cause .....

This may be a stretch, but I have experienced this. I replied to a post a few months ago if you want more history on this (see '2000 starting problems' last posted on 11/15/04).

The problem in my case is a leaking windshield. Water gets into the electrical system by the fuse box, must cause some type of short and things act really wierd (i'm no mechanic or electrician so I may be wrong there). Last weekend I walked out to my truck and I could hear Toby Kieth blaring on the radio. The only problem was I had the keys in my hand, the vehicle was locked, but the radio was on and I was staring in the window with a confused look on my face.

Then when I turned on the truck and then shut it off, the door chime would go off as if I left the lights on. The only way to shut it off was to close the door. Really wierd. Oh yeah the clock would remain on even after I shut the the power off.

I've had the fuse box replaced, the GEM module replaced and the window resealed. Still causing me problems and I'm scheduled to get the windsheild looked at again. So far spent ~$900 on these strange electrical issues .... my patience is wearing thin and I have pulled out almost all of my hair.

Did it rain or snow recently when you had this problem? Was there high humidity on that day?

Hope this helps, but I also hope you are not experiencing what I have over the past few months.

Try this long shot open doors windows up and spray large amounts of wd-40 inside the door handles and allow to drain it maybe the magnets that control the chim and lights are sticking

Actually, I think I do have a retain accessory featue, but the only thing it did was keep my windows powered for a short time after I took the keys out. Not the radio. Now, the radio is aftermarket, so maybe the guys at BestBuy didn't hook it up right...

Last night I was trying to debug the problem and I found out that the door chime will stop dinging when I disconnect the radio.
I also found that the Accessory Delay Relay will click when I disconnect the radio and it clicks again when I connect the radaio again.

So now my question is:

Why would my door chime stop dinging when the radio is disconnected?

Keep in mind, I have had this radio in my truck for about 5 years, and haven't had the door chime issue till recent months.

Any ideas??

Also, how do I check the door pins?

Thanks.

one more thing...I tried the WD40 in the door latch several times (not on the same day) and that didn't help my problem...

I am not sure on that year but sometimes the chime is programmed into the pcm when the vehicle is roll tested at the plant. Have you had your pcm changed or added chips and the such?

I haven't done anything with the PCM and I've never added chips...

It seems like the door chime works properly when the radio is not plugged in.

I am going to try to put the stock radio back in tonight and see if that fixes the problem...I'll let you know.

well, putting the stock radio back in seems to work. The door chime works properly now...
coulc have been a grounding issue.
I notice the schematics in my haynes book show 2 grounds going to the radio.
However, Best Buy only connected one of them to my aftermarket radio.
Not sure why it would start having the problem after 5 years of owning the radio tho...
